Lee Ann Arnett   High School American History, Government & Economics   meanlittlewoman@hotmail.com

Lee Ann is the mother of 5, with 12 years of home schooling experience. She is now continuing the education of her 10th grade daughter and 7th grade son. Lee Ann has been teaching U.S. History in her home for the past 3 years and currently has added a science class to her co-op. Lee Ann thrives on teaching the “oddities” and the not so known facts, to help complete the total picture of history. She believes the more extensive the knowledge and the more points of view available to the student while learning, will build and strengthen the character of a child, giving them the tools, confidence, and integrity to make choices that will be important to not only themselves but, to our nation as they mature and become our next group of leaders.

Dawn Deans   Elementary Science, Middle School Science-Zoology 1 & 2   thedeans4@tds.net

I have been home schooling my sons (ages 12 and 16) for 6 years. We have been involved with Southside Homeschool Co-op for several years and have been truly blessed by having such an awesome resource available in our homeschool journey. I'm looking forward to becoming a part of your child’s learning experience. I feel that it’s vitally important for children to be able to link God with science as they seek answers to the wonders of the world around them. My desire is that this will be more than a class, but a time of making friends, having fun and discovering new things in a relaxed, but orderly atmosphere.

Joyce Francis   High School Geometry   jpfrancis216@verizon.net

I’m a graduate of Va Tech, with a degree in Elem. Education with a minor in Math. I taught math for 5 years before having my 2 sons. I have been involved with homeschooling since 1984, having taught my 2 sons at home for 5 years. I helped start the first Homeschool support group in this area with 10 families that grew to 100 families. (The Richmond Regional organization is the child of that group.) I’ve tutored Algebra and Geometry for the past 15 years. I enjoy teaching teens and helping them understand the math we do in class. My husband of 33 years is Stan, my sons are both graduates of Va. Tech and married, one of them has 2 daughters and “one in the oven.” I’m really enjoining being a Grandma.

Janice Goldstein   High School Spanish I & II, World History & Biblical Hebrew   powhatansage@comcast.net

Janice homeschooled her three children until they graduated from high school. She has taught Spanish to homeschoolers for 6 years in Powhatan, Goochland and Chesterfield. An R.N. with a B.A. in Psychology and graduate work in education at VCU, she also works part time as a health consultant and educator. She studied Spanish in college and in Spain. She feels that the understanding of history and other worldviews and the knowledge of a foreign language are crucial to living in our shrinking world and the time in which we have been placed.

Sharon Kessel   Physical Science & High School Chemistry   sjskessel@msn.com

Sharon Kessel is a 14-year veteran homeschooling mom of 3 children, the oldest a student at Virginia Tech. Now living in Powhatan with her husband and 2 youngest children, she attended college at the City College of Baltimore and the University of Detroit and practiced as a licensed Dental Hygienist in Pennsylvania and Virginia for 10 years before turning to education. She has taught biology for 7 years, general and physical science for 2 years, believing in learning through a very hands-on approach to understanding new concepts. Teaching science from a Creationist's perspective is a true passion and joy, to realize God as Creator and the design that He has put into every aspect of our created world.

Lori Metzger   High School Spanish III, IV & V   senorametzger@verizon.net

I have been homeschooling for 12 years and teaching Spanish in the homeschool community for over 6 years. My formal education includes a BS in Spanish and Math from UR. I taught in Henrico and Chesterfield County public schools before "retiring" to be an at-home mom. One of my motivations for teaching is to enable teens to fulfill the role that God has for them by challenging them to investigate other cultures and belief systems through a Biblical worldview. I open and close class with prayer and often use the Bible as a resource in class papers and discussions.
